(Case Study: Enslaved: Odyssey to the West

Picture
This week week we talked about Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary Sources through the case-study of ENSLAVED - probably my all time favorite game for reasons too lengthy to cover here. The big take-away is that the type of source something is can change depending on the type of research you are doing!

If you need more help with this topic (or were one of those who missed class this week!) I recommend reading the examples given by Yale at this link:

First off, this game, while interesting, does not look like my slice of cake, but that's more of a preference that a comment on the piece.

More importantly, on talking to the player. It seemed to be less bout video games specifically but was more Emac in general talking about general changes in our communications.

Monkey reminded me of a WWF wrestler

I found the idea that modern people need information to be presented linearly rather than in bits and pieces somewhat informative to my own life. I hadn't realized before, but I do have difficulty putting information together when it's given to me bit by bit. Not that it really matters to others enough to post, but figured I should comment this week, and this was something to mention.

I played the demo for this back when it released. At the time I wasn't too enthusiastic about it but only after seeing it showcased in class last week, did I noticed how great the characters (animation, voice acting) were. I'll need to buy this game here pretty soon.

This is one of those games I always thought sounded interesting but never got around to. You don't see many games like this focused on the west.

Enslaved was a interesting game, but I had an issue with the ability to not kill myself if I tried to jump in a weird direction. It really made the game less fun.
